The Government of Dubai Legal Affairs Department signs Memorandum of Understanding with the Association of Corporate Counsel

The Government of Dubai Legal Affairs Department (the Department) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Association of Corporate Counsel  (ACC) to collaborate on projects and programmes related to the professional development for legal consultants working for private companies in the United Arab Emirates and the Gulf Cooperation Council Countries.

The MoU was signed by His Excellency Dr Lowai Mohamed Belhoul, Director General of the Department, and Mrs. Veta Richardson, the  Chief Executive Officer of the ACC.

According to the MoU, the Department will share its expertise related to the Continuous Legal Professional Development Programme (CLPD), which is the first of its kind in the region, with a view to contributing to the establishment of the development programme which the Association will launch officially in 2018. The programme will seek to qualify 6000 legal practitioners who are members of the ACC and working in private companies in the GCC.

His Excellency Dr. Lowai Belhoul emphasised the significance of this MoU which aims to share experience in relation to the legal professional training and development in line with the strategy of the Department and as part of its commitment to best practices that aim to raise the level of legal services provided in the Emirate.

Dr. Belhoul welcomed the collaboration with the ACC which represents 42,000 members working in 85 different countries, and reaffirmed that the Department is delighted to share its experience in the field of legal professional development to contribute to the implementation of the programme. He also noted that the partnership between the Department and the ACC will improve the professional efficiency of the ACC's legal practitioners working in various businesses in the UAE.

Mrs. Richardson stressed the importance of launching this programme which it is hoped,  will raise the bar of legal services provided by practitioners working for corporates and private companies, in line with the best international practices.
