The Government of Dubai Legal Affairs Department receives Malaysian Judicial Delegation

His Excellency Dr Lowai Mohamed Belhoul, Director General of the Government of Dubai Legal Affairs Department, received a high profile judicial delegation from Malaysia, headed by His Excellency Tun Arifin bin Zakaria, Chief Justice of Malaysia, in the presence of His Excellency Michael Hwang, Chief Justice of the DIFC Courts.

The delegation was briefed on the duties and functions of the Department; particularly, receiving complaints and claims filed against government entities in the Emirate and the procedures and efforts of the Department to settle disputes amicably with a view to achieving an acceptable, equitable settlement for all parties, without having to endure the rigours of litigation.

The delegation was also briefed on the Department's policy of regulating the advocacy and legal consultancy professions adopted in line with international best practices. Further, a brief was given on the Continuing Legal Professional Development Programme applicable to legal consultants in the Emirate which aims to enhance their legal knowledge and skills and, keep them abreast of current developments. The Continuing Legal Professional Development Programme not only raises the standard of legal services provided in the Emirate, but also  ensures  the highest levels of confidence amongst clients, thus securing Dubai's position as an international hub for the provision of legal services and, creating an attractive business environment conducive to encouraging foreign investment, in line with Dubai Strategic Plan.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties exchanged commemorative gifts and highlighted the importance of this visit to better  understand the differing experiences in the field of regulating legal and judicial work.
