The Government of Dubai Legal Affairs Department Launches the Knowledge Management Directorate Event Week

In order to implement the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan declaring 2016 as the "Year of Reading", and in line with the National Strategy for Reading (2016-2026), the Government of Dubai Legal Affairs Department has launched the Knowledge Management Week.

The Knowledge Management Week is part of the Department's efforts to support the goals of the "Year of Reading" and to make reading a daily habit and life-style for its employees.

His Excellency Dr. Lowai Belhoul, Director General of the Department, emphasized the importance of spreading a culture of knowledge-sharing through organizing conferences and seminars  whose goal is to enrich accumulated knowledge and culture. The Department is keen, through these initiatives, to embody the visions , directives and ongoing development of the Visionary Leadership, as represented in this instance by the "Year of Reading".

The Department organised a conference titled "Books .. Reading .. Knowledge in the Digital Age", in which both Dr. Hesham Azmi, Library and Information Science Professor at Cairo University, and Dr. Jassim Gerges, Library and Information Science Professor at the American University in Dubai, talked about the key role of reading to attain knowledge. The conference also showcased "Federal Law (18) of 2016 On Reading", the first legislation of its kind in the world, which places a comprehensive plan  to make reading a fundamental part of government entities  work and tasks. Furthermore,  the significance of  reading printed books and reading E-books was showcased along with examples of reading and writing projects in the Arab World.

The Knowledge Management Week also includes a number of specialized conferences that highlight reading as an essential element in acquiring knowledge and promoting forward-thinking. As part of the Event, the Department will host many academics and specialists in the field of reading and knowledge. In addition, the Department will organise  a forum at one of the centres for people with special needs to raise awareness of their rights as guaranteed under the Law. In addition the Department's library will be available to all employees working in the various departments within HH The Ruler's Court.
