Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Dubai Legal Affairs Department and Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (“DMCC”)
The Government of Dubai, Legal Affairs Department ("Department") continues to encourage cooperation with various government entities in its mission to develop the legal profession in the Emirate of Dubai. In furtherance of this mission, His Excellency Dr. Lowai Mohammed Belhoul, Director General of the Department, and Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Executive Chairman of DMCC, jointly signed a Memorandum of Understanding concerning the regulation of the legal profession and the licensing of legal consultancy firms incorporated and operating within the DMCC.
Dr. Lowai Belhoul emphasised the significance of this Memorandum as strengthening strategic partnerships with various public and private entities, whose functions are integral to the Department's mandate. His Excellency added, that this Memorandum reflects the unified agenda of both parties, namely the prerequisites for registering legal practitioners and the licensing of legal consultancy firms in the Emirate. The Memorandum embodies the Departments values through the sharing of knowledge to implement initiatives that raise awareness among the business community regarding regulatory requirements for the legal profession.
Ahmed Bin Sulayem expressed his satisfaction that this Memorandum paves the way for continued cooperation and transparent communication with the Department. Furthermore, he emphasised the DMCC's compliance in upholding the Department's existing procedures relating to the licensing of legal consultancy firms operating within the DMCC. The DMCC is committed to maintaining its efforts to support the Department in regulating the legal profession in line with international best practices. This unified approach will ultimately advance the level of legal services delivered by companies operating in the DMCC.
