The Government of Dubai Legal Affairs Department (the Department) is participating in the Dubai International Government Achievements Exhibition (DIGAE 2016) which begins today, under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai.
The Department showcased its smart achievements, initiatives and services all of which are tailored to meet the needs and expectations of customers and to promote excellence in government legal work, consistent with the aspirations of the astute leadership, urging governments entities to collaborate to allow Dubai to become the "smartest city" in the world. DIGAE is organised as part of the Dubai Government Excellence Programme.
His Excellency Dr. Lowai Belhoul, Director General of the Department, stated that by participating in this event, the Department can open communication channels with other participating Government departments and establishments from the UAE and beyond. Dr. Belhoul also applauded the Exhibition as an opportune platform upon which the developmental initiatives and projects launched by the Department in order to bring happiness to customers, can be showcased.
During the Exhibition, the Department displayed its smart services which promote excellence in legal work. Notably, the Department extoled the virtues of the Continuous Legal Professional Development Programme launched by the Department to provide a world-class legal professional training environment, raise the efficiency and skills of legal consultants, improve the standard of legal services provided in Dubai and equip legal consultants with the requisite skills to align them with the profession's developments both domestically and globally.
The Department also introduced the 'Government Entities Portal', which allows each government entity to submit a request for legal services, through the portal. The entity can then track their respective complaints and/or disputes, request the drafting or reviewing of government agreements and contracts, in addition to being able to add any required documents directly via the portal.
In line with the strategy to transform Dubai into a 'Smart City', the Department unveiled its Smart Apps for legal practitioners developed to offer both advocates and legal consultants easy and efficient access to all the Department's smart services through a smart device. Smart apps such as these allow legal practitioners to submit requests for both initial and renewal of their registration in addition to requests to license and renew the license of advocacy and legal consultancy firms. Using their smart device, users can conveniently track the status of their requests online.
The Department's "Smart Appointment" service was also presented, demonstrating how advocates and legal consultants can access the online service using a smart device, to browse the calendar and book or amend an appointment with the Department.
With regard to legal services, the Department showcased its "Ask a Consultant" service, which permits users to receive answers to simple legal enquiries from an advocate or legal consultant registered with the Department. Additionally, the Department displayed other smart services allowing members of the public to submit and track their complaints against government entities or indeed any member of the legal profession.
The Department also introduced its "Dubai legal forum" service, which is an online forum for advocates and legal consultants registered with the Department, where topics and issues related to legal work are discussed and knowledge and experiences are exchanged.
In conclusion, the Department announced the introduction of the "Advocates and Legal Consultants
Directory" incorporating the names of all advocates and legal consultants registered with the Department in addition to law firms licensed to practice the profession in the Emirate of Dubai.
