The Government of Dubai Legal Affairs Department holds a Training Workshop on Developing Legal Skills in Law Firms

The Government of Dubai Legal Affairs Department held its international training program for mediation in civil and commercial disputes, which was launched by the Department in 2022 in collaboration with the ADR Center, an internationally accredited center for qualifying mediators,

The training program, which was conducted in English, was attended by 17 participants from government entities in the Emirate of Dubai and legal practitioners from advocacy and legal consultancy firms registered with the Department, in addition to employees from the Department and others interested in mediation from various sectors. The training program, which ran for (40) training hours, qualifies participants in acquiring fundamental skills in alternative civil and commercial dispute resolution and mastering the techniques of professional mediators in line with best international standards and practices. Trainees who successfully pass the program become internationally accredited as qualified mediators recognized by both the International Mediation Institute (IMI) and the ADR Center.

In this context, His Excellency Dr. Lowai Mohamed Belhoul, Director General of the Government of Dubai Legal Affairs Department, affirmed that the Department places among its priorities supporting all alternative methods to litigation and resolving the dispute between its parties through means that guarantee the rule of law and the achievement of expeditious justice. His Excellency also recalled the importance of spreading awareness of the significance of mediation and possessing negotiating tools and called for adopting and applying these tools in resolving disputes, pointing out that these training programs meet the directives of the Government of Dubai in establishing partnerships that aim to exchange experiences and enhance legal skills in the Emirate of Dubai. All this contribute to achieving the Dubai Economic Agenda (D33) to position Dubai as a global hub for resolving disputes through alternative methods to litigation.

His Excellency Dr. Lowai Belhoul noted that the Department has attached special attention to enhancing the capabilities of its employees in the field of mediation over the previous years, without this being dependent on passing the mediation training program, as the Department supported its employees who are members of the amicable settlement committees for government disputes to obtain international accreditation in mediation from the International Mediation Institution (IMI), the world's highest accreditation in the field of civil and commercial disputes. The training and accreditation program is based primarily on the mediators' mastery of mediation and dispute resolution skills, in addition to having solid practical experience. It is an additional impetus to the Department's endeavours in settling complaints and disputes in which the Government of Dubai or one of its affiliated entities is a party, as the Department, under its establishing Law No. (32) of 2008, is tasked with receiving complaints and claims made against the Government and Government entities in the Emirate of Dubai, and seeking amicable settlement.
