The Legal Affairs Department and Dubai Courts discuss the Development of Litigation Procedures for Governmental Claims

The Government of Dubai Legal Affairs Department, in cooperation with the Dubai Courts, held a virtual meeting to discuss ways to improve the litigation process for government claims made by the Department before the relevant judicial bodies.

During the meeting, the two parties discussed various topics related to expeditious justice and rule of the law, and exchanged views on ways to improve work processes with a view to enhancing cooperation. This includes notifying Government entities of statements of claim, providing a link to the claims once registered so the Department may  access claims and their supporting documents, and to send these to Government entities in order to provide a quick response, which ensures that these claims are expeditiously referred to competent courts for a decision.

The meeting also addressed ways to improve coordination concerning deadlines for hearing cases of a special nature, whose examination and preparatory procedures before the case management offices may require exceptional periods of time. There was also discussion of the implementation of procedures to notify the defendant using the Makani number, in the absence of a specific address. This would assist in overcoming any obstacles in the registration of claims filed by the Government and Government entities with Dubai Courts.

The meeting was attended by Legal Counsel, Tarik Saeed Saleh, Head of Government Claims Section, and the work team from the Government Disputes and Claims Directorate's employees of the Government of Dubai Legal Affairs Department, and by Mr. Adnan Al Hammadi, Head of Cases Management Department,  Mr. Khaled Al Shehhi, Head of Central Services Division of Customer Happiness Department and Ms. Mona Al-Mulla, Head of Systems Development and Smart Services Division, from Dubai Courts, in addition to other legal and administrative staff from both entities.
