The Government of Dubai Legal Affairs Department Participates in Various Activities During the UAE Innovation Month

As part of its participation in the activities of the Month of Innovation 2022 ("UAE Innovates"), the Government of Dubai Legal Affairs Department launched several initiatives to foster a culture of innovation, creativity, and future-shaping among its employees, and to encourage them to submit innovative ideas in a manner that will contribute to achieving excellence and institutional leadership.

Designing the Future

His Excellency Dr. Lowai Mohamed Belhoul, the Director General of the Government of Dubai Legal Affairs Department affirmed that allocating February as the annual month of innovation in the UAE reflects the willingness of our wise leadership to make innovation a well-established approach in shaping the future. Hence, innovation is not a choice, but rather one of the imperatives of development and an indispensable instrument to cope with changes and, to meet the aspirations of our leadership and the comprehensive development vision by providing innovative solutions that will bolster the UAE's future plans.

His Excellency Dr. Belhoul added that the Department spares no effort to ensure a motivational working environment for its employees to help them unleash creative ideas compatible with the Department's goals. The Department relies on its human capital in achieving the highest level of performance in the government legal services sector, especially as we begin the next fifty years of the Union's history, which requires launching new feasible innovative projects to keep pace with future changes.

Cognitive activities

The Department hosted a workshop on "Moonshot Thinking" that addressed the importance of governments and institutions' endeavours to build the future using well-conceived scientific and methodological strategies. The workshop also introduced the stages of design in light of constant changes which require a thorough understanding of the requirements for future planning by implementing highly effective action plans that accelerate development in the legal sector.

The workshop also covered how to set priorities, identify challenges, and develop capabilities using effective techniques for shaping the future and developing critical thinking that frames the innovation process in a manner that would help Dubai retain a leading position globally.

To encourage initiatives and creativity as a holistic approach in life, the Department launched the "Best Success Story" initiative in the field of innovation and designing the future. Employees were invited to participate by submitting one of their projects which had a significant impact on the Department's work processes.

The Department provided its employees with the latest books related to innovation and forward-thinking. Electronic versions of these books were also made available to foster a culture of innovation among its employees. In addition, the Department focused on sharing educational quotes about the most prominent skills of innovative thinking, stimulating the creativity of employees, and introducing thinking patterns and factors that shape their creative abilities.

Contemporaneously, the Department launched a competition for the best innovative idea to predict the post-Covid 19 world. This Initiative aims to study the future of government legal services and how they respond to changes, and also to provide innovative solutions to develop the Department's processes and services in order to ensure a distinguished government legal service that meets the aspirations and directions set by the Government of Dubai.

Innovation Hall

Further evidence of its desire to employ innovative practices used in developing the government legal work system and legal services provided to its clients in line with the requirements of the comprehensive development in the Emirate of Dubai, the Department launched the first legal innovation hall in the UAE.  The Innovation hall will facilitate brainstorming sessions aimed at launching new legal projects and encouraging employees to think collectively and unleash their potential in order to improve the services provided by the Department.

The first session began, in the presence of the Director General and heads of organisational units, with a discussion about the future development of the Department's services.  The session shed light on the development opportunities available and their ability to keep up with rapid changes, which requires forward-thinking, conscious awareness and innovative solutions that would support sustainable development and concrete objectives whilst enhancing Dubai's leadership position in various sectors.

Honoring

As part of its efforts to motivate its employees and to ensure a workplace that cherishes innovation, the Department honoured those employees who submitted creative ideas in recognition of their eagerness to add value that will reflect positively on the services provided by the Department and support the strategic goals of the Government of Dubai.
