The Government of Dubai Legal Affairs Department briefs Abu Dhabi Judicial Department on its Experience in Regulating the Advocacy and Legal Consultancy Professions

As part of sustained efforts to boost the existing mutual cooperation and enhance the exchange of expertise with various government entities concerning legal work, the Legal Affairs Department received a delegation from Abu Dhabi Judicial Department.

The purpose of the visit was to review the systems and approaches utilised by the Department in the regulation of the advocacy and legal consultancy professions in the Emirate of Dubai.

During the meeting, attended by Khamis Mubarak Al Qubaisi, Director of the Legal Department and Experts in the Judicial Department and Awadh Nassir Al Hayid, Head of the Lawyers Section, the delegation was briefed on best practices and programmes applied by the Department in the legal profession. A demonstration of the Department's Legal Profession System was given and an explanation of the Department's  regulations and by-laws that ensure legal practitioners' commitment to the best international standards, protect the clients' best interests and raise the bar of legal services provided within the Emirate.

The delegation was also given a thorough explanation of the smart solutions and initiatives launched by the Department to enable legal practitioners to submit their applications via their smart devices. Smart apps such as these allow legal practitioners to submit requests for their registration in addition to requests to license advocacy and legal consultancy firms. Using their smart device, users can conveniently process their applications without having to visit the Department's premises.

Both parties discussed other topics related to the requirements for the registration of advocates and licensing of advocacy and legal consultancy firms.
