​His Excellency Dr. Lowai Belhoul, the Director General of the Government of Dubai Legal Affairs Department received Fr. Mina Hanna, the Chairman of Jebel Ali Churches Council.


Dr. Belhoul stated that the UAE is a unique role model in terms of tolerance and co-existence between the different nationalities it hosts. He added that the laws of the UAE are based on the principles of justice and equality and provide for freedom of religion in accordance with international covenants and treaties. This approach was confirmed by issuing a law combating discrimination and hatred in 2015 that criminalizes any act that would incite contempt or vilification of religions and bans all forms of discrimination and hatred through any form of expression.

Fr. Mina Hanna hailed the approach of the wise leadership of the UAE in spreading the culture of tolerance and, its respect to all sects and religions. He added that renaming the Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Mosque to "Mariam, Mother of Issa", Peace be upon him, is the biggest proof of the religious tolerance established by a country that hosts more than 200 different nationalities with various religions, cultures and traditions.
